Alex is a General Partner at Forbion where he set up and co-led the BioEconomy strategy.
Before joining Forbion, Alex was Managing Director at a family office joint-venture, raising capital for a climate tech VC fund and investing in early-stage bio-based climate startups. Alex started his venture capital career at M Ventures, the €400 million venture arm of science & technology company Merck KGaA, where he was responsible for the Frontier Tech & Sustainability investments. His investment scope ranged from digital healthcare to biotech investments in planetary health.
Alex led, amongst others, the Series A in Mosa Meat, a Netherlands-based cell-cultured meat company, which has subsequently raised significant capital from top tier investors. He was also responsible for the investment in Formo, a Berlin-based precision fermentation company, aiming to produce non-animal dairy products. Formo has raised the largest European food-tech Series A round in 2021. Alex served as Board Member to both companies.
Before becoming a venture capital investor, Alex was an operator in tech startups and in strategic development at Merck KGaA, where he led the digital strategy for Merck’s operations across Africa, out of Merck’s office in Nairobi, Kenya.

With our Forbion BioEconomy Fund, we are filling a much needed funding gap for innovative companies at the intersection of biotechnology and planetary health. Our goal is to accelerate the transition from a petrochemical-based economy to a bio-based one, and while doing so creating value both for our investors and the climate. Being part of Forbion has allowed us to reach a meaningful scale from day one, and as such significantly increase our potential impact.
