As a founding member of the European Life Sciences Coalition (ELSC), Forbion has joined more than 200 investors, research organizations, biotechnology companies, and industry leaders in signing an open letter calling on European policymakers to strengthen the region's life sciences ecosystem.

The letter, titled "Health is Wealth: Why Europe must act now to strengthen its Life Sciences industry," highlights the critical role life sciences play in Europe's economic competitiveness, technological sovereignty, and public health. While Europe remains a global leader in scientific research and innovation, many of its most promising companies continue to face challenges accessing the long-term capital and supportive regulatory environment needed to scale within Europe.

The Coalition calls for coordinated action to:

  • Mobilize more public and private capital for life sciences innovation.
  • Encourage greater participation from pension funds and institutional investors
  • Build deeper, more integrated European capital markets.
  • Simplify regulation and accelerate clinical development.
  • Strengthen Europe's innovation ecosystem through investment in talent, infrastructure, and cross-border collaboration.

Europe's life sciences sector contributes approximately 9.4% of EU GDP and generates nearly €1.5 trillion in economic value, yet the EU represents only 7% of global life sciences venture capital investment, compared with 63% in the United States and 14% in China. The Coalition argues that addressing this investment gap is essential to ensuring European scientific breakthroughs are developed, financed, and commercialized in Europe.

Forbion is proud to support this collective initiative and remains committed to partnering with policymakers, investors, entrepreneurs, and industry leaders to strengthen Europe's position as a global leader in life sciences innovation.
