Impact on planetary health

Forbion BioEconomy focuses on companies that apply biotechnology to provide sustainable solutions for the planet and our population.

Alongside our financial objectives, positive impacts on both the planet and our society are key criteria. In making these investments, the BioEconomy Fund focuses on:

  • Cleaning the planet: enabling new types of production systems that provide innovative solutions to persistent pollution problems across several industries
  • Feeding the planet: enabling alternative products and processes to sustainably feed the Earth’s growing population.

Forbion developed the PLANET Framework to assess each investment following six aspects:

  1. Pollution prevention
  2. Lowering consumption
  3. Alternative materials
  4. Need for change
  5. Emissions reduction
  6. Technological innovation

  • SDG 9: “to build resilient infrastructure, promote inclusive and sustainable industrialization and foster innovation”
  • SDG 12: “to ensure sustainable consumption and production pattern” and
  • SDG 13: “to take urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts”.
